Do you know Ajay Chaurasia? Most likely you have no idea who he is. …but you certainly know who is Salman Khan. You also know that recently Salman was acquitted from Bombay High Court. Last May Sessions Court sentenced him for 5 years imprisonment and within 7 months his appeal was heard and he walked free. Now you may ask, how is Ajay Chaurasia related to Salman’s case? The only thing common between Salman Khan’s case and Ajay Chaurasia’s story is that both had appealed in Bombay High Court against their convictions by the lower courts. However, Salman Khan got justice in just 7 months. Guess since how long Ajay Chaurasia’s appeal is pending with Bombay High Court? Since 7 YEARS! Yes the same figure 7 ! सलमान खान को हिट एंड रन केस में बॉम्बे हाई कोर्ट से बरी हुए आज हफ्ताभर हो गया है। इस दौरान मेरी कई वकीलों से बातचीत हुई जो कि इस केस से जुडे हुए नहीं थे, लेकिन न्यायिक प्रकिया पर नजर रखे हुए थे। ऐसे तमाम वकील मुझे हतप्रभ और गुस्से से भरे हुए नजर आये।...नहीं..नहीं..ये गुस्सा सलमान खान को इस तरह से छोड दिये जाने को लेकर नहीं था, न ही सलमान को बरी करने जाने वाले जज के खिलाफ था। ये गुस्सा था न्यायिक प्रक्रिया की उस तेज रफ्तार को लेकर जो सिर्फ सलमान के मामले में ही नजर आई। अगर किसी आरोपी को निचली अदालत दोषी करार देकर सजा सुनाती है और 6 महीने में ऊपरी अदालत यानी कि हाई कोर्ट उसकी अपील पर फैसला सुना देती है तो ये अभियुक्त के नजरिये से एक अच्छी बात है। अभियुक्त अपने भविष्य को लेकर सस्पेंस में नहीं रहता। उसे ज्यादा कोर्ट के चक्कर नहीं लगाने पडते, तारीख दर तारीख इंतजार नहीं करना होता, वकीलों को ज्यादा फीस नहीं देनी होती। सलमान हिट एंड रन केस में बरी हो गये ये तो उनके लिये एक अच्छी खबर थी ही, लेकिन उससे ज्यादा अहम बात ये थी कि वो उस तकलीफदेह न्यायिक प्रकिया से भी बच गये जो कि आम लोगों को ...

कहते हैं कि एक ही चीज बार बार देखने-सुनने से उसके प्रति संवेदना खत्म हो जाती है। 17 साल की उम्र में पत्रकारिता शुरू की थी और 37 साल की उम्र तक पहुंचते पहुंचते न जानें कितनी और किस किस तरह की मौतें देखीं। कुदरती और मनुष्यजनित हादसों में होने वाली मौतें, पुलिस और गैंगस्टरों की गोलियों से होने वाली मौतें, दहशतगर्दों की ओर से किये गये बम धमाकों में इंसानी शरीर के चिथडे उडा देने वाली मौतें...मुझे कभी कभी डर लगता है कि मेरी हालत सरकारी अस्ताल में पोस्टमार्टम के लिये रोजाना लाशों की चीरफाड करने वाले संवदेनहीन डॉक्टर की जैसी न हो जाये...लेकिन शायद अभी वो नौबत नहीं आई है। संवेदना बची हुई है...मन सोचता है...दुखी होता है...और लिखने को मजबूर करता है। ये ब्लॉग मैं चेन्नै से बाढ की त्रासदी कवर करके वापस लौटते वक्त लिख रहा हूं। इस बार भी वही सवाल और वही ख्याल मेरे जेहन में हलचल मचा रहे हैं जो बीते डेढ दशक में दुनिया की अनेक बडी कुदरती आपदाओं के कवरेज के दौरान मुझे घेरे हुए थे। 2004 में हिंद महासागर में सुनामी लहरों की हैवानियत, 2005 में मुंबई को डुबा देने वाली बारिश, 2011 में जापान को हिला...

खबर आई है कि एक बार फिर अंडरवर्लड डॉन दाऊद इब्राहिम की संपत्ति की नीलामी होने जा रही है। बीते 16 सालों में दाऊद की संपत्ति की ये चौथी बार नीलामी हो रही है। मैं इससे पहले दाऊद की संपत्तियों की 3 नीलामियां कवर कर चुका हूं और मेरा मानना है कि ऐसी नीलामी एक ड्रामे से ज्यादा कुछ नहीं होती। साल 2000 में सबसे पहली बार नीलामी कोलाबा इलाके के इस होटल डिप्लोमैट में हुई थी...लेकिन तब किसी की हिम्मत नहीं हुई कि वो डॉन की संपत्ति पर बोली लगाये। उसके अगले साल 28 मार्च 2001 को दूसरी बार फिरसे नीलामी की गई जिसमें दिल्ली के शिवसैनिक अजय श्रीवास्तव ने नागपाडा इलाके की जयराजभाई लेन में 2 दुकाने खरीदीं। उसी साल 20 सितंबर को फिरसे तीसरी नीलामी हुई। उस नीलामी में दिल्ली के ही एक व्यापारी पीयूष जैन ने दाऊद की ताडदेव इलाके की एक संपत्ति खरीदी। इन दोनो ही लोगों ने संपत्ति के पैसे तो चुका दिये लेकिन आज तक संपत्ति का कब्जा हासिल नहीं कर सके हैं। दिल्ली के शिवसैनिक अजय श्रीवास्तव पेशे से वकील हैं।1999 में श्रीवास्तव पहली बार तब चर्चा में आये थे जब उन्होने पाकिस्तान के साथ क्रिकेट मैच खेले जाने के वि...

मुंबई में हुआ आतंकी हमला भी नवंबर में हुआ था और पेरिस  में हुआ हमला भी नवंबर में हुआ है लेकिन महीने की समानता के अलावा अगर हम बारीकी से गौर करें तो पाएंगे कि पेरिस और मुंबई के हमलो के बीच करीब 7 समानताएं है। १)  Crowded Locations. पहली समानता यह है कि दोनों शहरों में आतंकियों ने भीड़ भाड़ वाले इलाको  को चुना था अपने टारगेट के तौर पैर।   मुंबई में हुए हमले का सबसे बड़ा टारगेट था CST  रेलवे स्टेशन जहां पर अजमल कसाब और उसके साथी इस्माइल  ने  ट्रेन पकड़ने के लिए आए मुसाफिरों  पर अंधाधुंध गोलियां बरसाई।   अकेले CST रेलवे स्टेशन पर ही 56 लोगों की मौत हो गई जिसमें रेलवे मुसाफिर भी थे और पुलिस कर्मचारी भी। २) Eating Places पेरिस  और मुंबई के हमलो के बीच दूसरी समानता ये है कि दोनों ही  हमलो में  खाने पीने के  रेस्टोरेंट्स को आतंकियों ने अपना निशाना बनाया जैसे कि मुंबई में उतरे आतंकियों के पहले गुट ने सबसे पहले कोलाबा इलाके के इस मशहूर लियोपोल्ड  कैफ़े में अंधाधुंध फायरिंग की जिस में की 11 लोग मारे गए। ३) Multiple Ta...

Although,  I wanted to write this blog earlier,  I was waiting for Chhota Rajan to be deported from Indonesia . I did not want to give any idea to his enemies on how easy it was to kill him in Bali . For 11 days that Chhota Rajan spent in the custody of Bali police he was a sitting duck for his adversaries. It would not have been a big challenge for the shooters of Chhota Shakeel to bump him off and I'm saying this on the basis of my observations during those 5 days which I had spent in Bali . There was absolutely nil security to him considering his stature in the underworld and the magnitude of threat to his life. Cops in Bali in general had no idea of how big Chhota Rajan was a criminal in India & this was reflected in the behaviour meted out to him by Bali cops. You must have read writeups on shocking similarities between Abraham Lincoln & J.F.Kennedy's assassinations. We have a similar story in India also, not related to murder of any politicians but of 2 young ladies in different parts of the country.Just viewed movie "Talwar" & the story made me compare Arushi Talwar's murder case with Mumbai's Sheena Bora murder case. Lancashire cops Graham Coates and Al Yusuf with an officer of Mumbai Police. Sheena Bora was killed in 2012 and her murder case got detected only 3 years later. One of the causes for this delay was the unprofessional conduct of Raigarh cops who did not investigate the case of unidentified dead body found in their jurisdiction. Although, the body which was recovered by them was burnt and concealed in a travelling bag, they skipped to register a murder case. Raigarh cops also didn’t care to collect the report from anatomy department of Sir.J.J.Hospital where the skeletal remains were sent. Such conduct of Raigarh cops is an example of how cops treat the cases of unidentified dead bodies reported to them. This case has reminded me of “Operation Complex” of UK police. That operation demonstrated to which extent cops in UK go to investigate a case of unidentified dead body, no matter how much money has to be spent, how much manpower is to be employed and how much time it takes. ...

लैंकशायर पुलिस के अधिकारी ग्राहम कोट्स और अल यूसुफ मुंबई पुलिस के अधिकारी के साथ। शीना बोरा की हत्या 2012 में हुई और 3 साल बाद ही उसकी हत्या का पता लग पाया। ऐसा क्यों हुआ इसके पीछे एक कारण ये भी है कि रायगढ पुलिस ने उसी साल अपने इलाके में मिली एक लावारिस लाश की तहकीकात नहीं की। न तो पुलिस ने बैग में बंद जली हुई लाश मिलने पर हत्या का मुकदमा दर्ज किया और न ही उसके अंगों के सैंपल जांच के लिये जे.जे.अस्पताल भेजने के बाद उसकी रिपोर्ट हासिल करने की सुध रखी। रायगढ पुलिस की ये लापरवाही एक मिसाल है कि हमारे देश में पुलिस लावारिस लाशों के मिलने पर उनकी जांच में कितनी दिलचस्पी लेती है। इस मामले ने मुझे याद दिला दी ब्रिटेन की पुलिस के “ ऑपरेशन कॉम्प्लैक्स ” की। उस ऑपरेशन से ये पता चलता चलता है कि ब्रिटेन की पुलिस किसी लावारिस शव के मिलने पर उसकी तहकीकात के लिये किस हद तक जा सकती है, फिर चाहे उसके लिये कितना भी पैसा, कितने भी लोग और कितना भी वक्त क्यों न लगाना पडे। 26 जुलाई 2002 को ब्रिटेन के लैंकशायर नाम के कस्बे से सटे ग्रामीण इलाके में एक महिला अपने कुत्ते को टहला रही थी। अचानक कुत्...
